The re404 Teapot at 24H FABFEST, Protospace, Utrecht. 

Some statistics:

• 614 kb of gcode for lid / 4.3 MB of gcode for pot.
• 1.5 hrs of printing for lid / 12.25 hrs of printing for pot
• about 0.5 kg of PLA
• one epic printer failure at about 2/3 of the print of the pot (thanks to Joris for his quick repair !)
• … and one leaking hole in the spout because of that. :(

Altogether pretty ridiculous, so I’m gonna go back to my model and optimize it … in a lot of ways.

Me and a colleague tried out The Locker Project. It was quite a tough one, and in the end we were not really impressed by the state and the power of the project. The Locker Project and Telehash remain very interesting open source projects though …

For Eekje, the brand new daugther of our friends Toon and Jannetje, we made a mobile ( the one that you put above the baby’s bed ;) .

The design consists of laser-cut acrylic shapes; partly letters spelling EEKJE and partly designed shapes that are combinations of downloaded vectorgraphics of objects and animals.

The lasercutting was really straightforward. We just used the settings we found on the exaple wall-piece and it was fine.

The only innovation we did was solving the problem of the stains that are left on the acrylic (especially on the white one the cutting leaves behind nasty brown stains caused by the heat and the smoke). We tried all kinds of cleaners and chemicals we found in the lab, but in the end I thought that BRASSO (grandma’s silver polish) could work. So I went and get it at Albert Heijn. Ik worked really well! So if you have problems with stains: there’s a bottle of Brasso now in the far-right cabinet in the fablab.
